In early November 2016 we released Portal CMS version 1.1. It brought some really useful new features to the technology and improved the Page Builder experience immeasurably.
We have been on and off working on the next new version when we can find the time, so this post goes over some of the things we have done so far, and what we intend to complete before we release 1.2.
The focus for Portal CMS 1.2 is on making the life of a developer easier, by making it easier to integrate bespoke functionality you have written into the existing technology.
Wouldn't it be cool for example to show your Etsy Products on your Portal CMS based website? We are making it possible for you to add new functionality easily by adding a "Widget". You can insert the widget onto any page in the Page Builder to bring make your bespoke functionality dynamic without needing to write much code at all.
So if you want to put information on your site from somewhere else, you just need to write code to integrate with a third party API and code to style how it looks. You can then just drag and drop it onto any page whenever you want, taking advantage of other features in Portal CMS like role management.
We are also making it easier for you to add your own sections and components, by providing a new Developer Utilities page within the Administration Panel. You can add new things here and they will automatically be available for use within the Page Builder!
What have we done so far?
We are not quite there yet, but we have completed some of the other minor changes required for this release, we wouldn't want to devalue them because they are driven by user's using the technology directly - so we are making the whole technology as easy and quick to use as possible.
Notably further User Experience changes like Paging for all multimedia - to reduce load times and screen space usage. Further Blog Management updates, Simplification of the Page Builder UI, Ability to Upload Images from the very places you want to use them etc.
